The Eucharist

While most people cannot have Eucharistic adoration in their homes, they can have some devotional art to remind them of the Eucharist, of Jesus's presence in their life. This painting is not just beautiful, it is a meditation piece; there is a lot of detail to hold your eye as it returns to the center of it, the Body and Blood. It is a Catholic still life, a trompe-l'œil that lets you imagine the real presence and helps your mind turn to prayer.

The words on the altar cloth translate to something like, I bless it, the Living Bread, the uplifted light from the alter, the Sacrament.

This painting was done in the late 1600s by Jan van Kessel the Elder (1626-1679), but still has a charm and freshness to it today. He was a painter from Antwerp with a phenomenal range. He painted insects, birds, landscapes, portraits, still lives, as well as religious subjects, and he did it all with verve and style.

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look when framed without a matt.
